Great Value frozen berries sold at Walmart have been recalled because of potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145:H28, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall involves one lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend sold in 10-ounce packages. Consumers who have frozen berries at home are being urged to check their freezers and verify the lot information before eating the product.

The recalled frozen berry blend was shipped to select Walmart stores in 16 states:
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Why Were the Frozen Berries Recalled?
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. expanded an earlier recall to include the Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend because of possible contamination with E. coli O145:H28.
This strain is a Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) that can cause illness and, in some cases, serious complications.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers should check their freezers for the recalled product and should not eat it.
If you have Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend with lot code 6040 01-6, discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
If frozen berries were removed from their original packaging and you cannot determine whether they are part of the recall, FDA advises throwing them away.
Surfaces and containers that may have come into contact with recalled berries should also be carefully cleaned and sanitized to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
Symptoms of E. coli Infection
Symptoms of an E. coli infection can include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
Some infections can cause serious complications, including hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a potentially life-threatening condition that can affect the kidneys.
Anyone who consumed recalled frozen berries and develops symptoms consistent with an E. coli infection should contact a healthcare provider.
FDA Investigation Continues
The FDA and CDC are continuing to investigate a multistate outbreak of E. coli O145:H28 infections linked to organic frozen blueberries.
As of the FDA’s September 3, 2026 update, 17 illnesses had been reported in two states, with six hospitalizations and no deaths.
FDA notes that no illnesses have been associated specifically with the recalled Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend to date. The recall was initiated as a precaution following traceback information from the broader investigation.
